Innerwheel Midden-West donates first gift to the Howest Foundation for project in Ethiopia

A first donation of 2,000 euros was handed over by the service club Innerwheel Midden-West. "Our service club only has female members. When we heard about the 'Family planning' project in Ethiopia, we wanted to support it", says chairwoman Ann Parein.

The project empowers young women in Northern Ethiopia, in the Tigrai province, by informing and supporting them in their choice for contraception. Howest students, together with researchers from the Mekelle University, will elaborate a health policy through awareness-raising activities in two hospitals in the province. Howest already has a long-lasting collaboration with the University of Mekelle. This collaboration is supported by among others Rotary International and the Province of West Flanders. Thanks to the support of Innerwheel Midden-West, the expertise of these two institutions of higher education can be brought together to inform young women about family planning services and the use of contraceptives.
